AMACS Hardware Tour - The PC

Your Windows PC

Desktop PC

As a MINIMUM requirements guideline your Personal Computer should have the following;

  1. Windows '95 or '98 Operating System
  2. 486 Processor (Pentium preferred)
  3. 15" SVGA Color Monitor
  4. 101 Keyboard
  5. 16MB RAM
  6. 20MB Free Hard disk space
  7. 3-1/2" Floppy Drive
  8. CD ROM Drive
  9. 9600 Baud Modem
  10. 1 available RS-232 Serial Port (Com1, Com2, Com3 or Com4)
  11. Bus Mouse*

* a Bus Mouse is preferred because you'll need 1 serial port for your Modem and 1 serial port for the AMACS RS-485 system. A serial mouse steals one of these ports and makes configuration more difficult, although not impossible.

DESCRIPTION:

The Aquarium Monitoring and Control System (AMACS) uses a Windows Personal Computer as its User Interface, Datalogger, Controller, Timer, and Network Interface System. Perhaps you already have a PC available that meets our less than state-of-the-art system requirements above? If not, then to purchase one that does is an inexpensive solution to get started using your AMACS.
